The Trip to Bountiful Auditions

Tahlelquah Community Playhouse, Inc. will auditions for the second play of the 45th season, “The Trip to Bountiful”, by Horton Foote, directed by Sandra Becker and Bryn Smith, on Monday and Tuesday, September 17 and 18, 2018, 7 p.m., St. Basil Episcopal Church, 814 North Vinita Ave. The cast includes 5 men and 3 women and several extras with no lines. The main character, Carrie Watts, is around sixty years old. Thelma, the young woman she meets at the bus station is in her 20’s. The rest are between 35-45. The ticket agents and extras are of no specific age. This moving play tells the story of Carrie Watts, an elderly woman, who longs to escape the cramped Houston apartment where she lives with her protective son, Ludie, and her authoritarian daughter-in-law, Jessie Mae. Carrie wants to return to her beloved hometown of Bountiful, Texas, one final time before she dies. While Ludie is at work and Jessie Mae is at the drugstore, Carrie escapes to the bus station and befriends a young woman named Thelma. The new friends travel toward Bountiful together but when Carrie arrives in nearby Harrison, Texas, she begins to learn that her beloved town isn’t the way she remembered it. Show dates are November 9-11, and November 16-18, 2018. All performances are held at the Tahlequah Armory Municipal Center, 100 North. Water Ave., Tahlequah, OK. Season tickets are still available.
